Prompt - “Jumping Through Hoops”

Every one of us has our talents and skills, but it is rare to find one who is truly the best at what they do.  We strive for greatness, seeking fulfilment, but…  What happens when we get there?

Hoopa’s talents are completely unique - it is the best at creating interdimensional portals simply by doing so at all.  These gates form in the centre of its rings, and are dubbed “Hyperspace Holes”.

Though this skill is unmatched, Hoopa sought more from it…  Not only did it observe Pokémon from alternate dimensions, it travelled to their worlds and interfered in their matters.  More and more, Hoopa used its Hyperspace Holes, discovering its capabilities as it travelled.  It even discovered dimensions where non-Pokémon creatures roamed - sometimes alongside familiar species, sometimes not.

But soon it found its limit.  Dimensions containing foreign beasts were inaccessible from its side of the portal - distant dwellers could travel to it, but Hoopa could not step through to their side of its rings.

Rumour has it Hoopa has seen every jungle, every desert, every river and lake known by Pokémon who roam Mystery Dungeons.  It has walked the streets of every city, the roads of every field, climbed to the highest point of every mountain and crawled to the depths of every cavern, legend says.  But still…  There were countless worlds left to explore.

Pushing beyond its limits, Hoopa attempted to enter a world housing no Pokémon, but instead strange bipedal creatures… Humans. However, the recoil from such an unnatural act devastated one of its hoops and scarred it severely. It never made it to this alien land.

Its right ring is forever tied to this gate to the human world.  Hoopa hasn’t opened it since, and intends to do so just once more…  For the winners of the Hyperspace Tournament.

With its expedition teammate Merriweather and some of her friends, it seeks teams to compete in its game - the winners get two priceless tickets to the human world: without a return journey, of course.  Across dimensions it is seeking contestants - though to those far enough away from its home dimension, all it can do is beckon from beyond a portal (perhaps with help from its fellow tournament staff).

Competitors in the Hyperspace Tournament must gather in Hoopa’s pocket dimension, a temperate forest with a quaint camp at its middle…  There’s no escape unless Hoopa allows it.

Rules

You must show your characters passing through one of Hoopa’s rings to arrive at its base camp in order to compete in the Hyperspace Tournament with the promise both winners will be taken to the human world (to the characters’ understanding, this is our world - with no Pokémon: while your characters in particular can have other ideas about the portal's destination, the Judge NPCs do not).

Audition FAQ

Can I start my audition with either / both of my characters already in Hoopa's pocket dimension?
Not both characters, but you are permitted to begin your audition with one member of your expedition team already through Hoopa's Hyperspace Hole if you wish.  However, in this case we still expect your audition to follow the story of the character who's travelling through to the pocket dimension.
